Chronic stress and trauma dis-regulate the nervous system and can alter the brain and body in ways that increase

  • worry,

  • tension,

  • irritability,

  • pain,

  • sleep problems and

  • other emotional, mental and physical disruptions.

These disruptions can lead to significant health problems and make it challenging to enjoy life.

In a culture that promotes unreasonably high levels of busyness and productivity, stress can impact almost every area of life—quality of sleep, relationships, work performance, ability to focus, and more. When trauma is added to the system, this kicks the stress response into an even higher gear. It can feel like trying to rev the engine and drive all day everyday with the emergency break on. When we don’t know what is happening or how to address it, this kind of stress wreaks havoc on the whole system and can eventually lead to severe illness or injury. The body can only take so much. Eventually, it will force us to stop. Stopping is the only way it can repair.

This is why I emphasize the integration of REST. We need to learn how to effectively rest the body, mind and spirit in order to heal and connect in the ways we desire. While in a true state of rest, our nervous systems automatically shift out of stress-mode and into restore-mode. From this place, we have access to levels of healing and peace that are otherwise out of reach.

Here's how a typical session looks:

  1. First, we talk for a bit about what is most concerning you and getting in the way of what you really want in life.

  2. Next, we clarify a starting point of intention--this could be something you want to connect with, welcome or let go of. The intention, which I will help you clarify if needed, sets the course for the session and our work together.

  3. Then, we decide what would be most supportive for this session--usually iRest or Reiki to help soothe and regulate the nervous system, cultivate your intention, and open access to deeper levels of healing.

Rather than approaching your situation as a problem that needs to be fixed, we will focus on opening a clearer, stronger connection with the healing power and innate wisdom that already dwells within you.

This process can take a few sessions, weeks, months or years, depending upon your life circumstances, the impact of stress or trauma on your system, and your readiness for change. Wherever you are on your journey, I will meet you there, and we can get started on bringing you back to Life.

The holistic approaches I offer—iRest® Yoga Nidra Meditation, Reiki, and Restorative Yoga—all help to regulate the nervous system and create an internal state of safety and wellbeing so that unhelpful patterns can be resolved, and deeper wounds can be healed. LEARN MORE

About me

Hi! I'm Jessica Hagy (she/her). It is my heartfelt calling to help end unnecessary suffering in the world. This came to light once I began to address the suffering in my own life.

We all suffer. That is part of being human. At the same time, I've learned that a great deal of our suffering is within our power of influence.

Throughout my life, I did the best I could to navigate systems and circumstances that left me feeling disconnected and distressed. Looking back, I now see patterns of countless, unconscious attempts to avoid, fix or numb feelings of discomfort and pain, all the while hiding deep, emotional wounds behind veils of perfectionism, over-functioning and attempts to conform to how I thought others wanted me to be. An emptiness grew within me that nothing could fill. I longed for something more—what exactly, I did not know. This longing set me out on a quest of peace and self-discovery.

During my exploration, a light slowly began to glow, like a kindled flame, awakening me to a wellspring of peace that I came to discover had always been inside but just out of reach. This healing journey, and the many guides, mentors and teachers that have helped me along the way, inspired me to share what I’ve learned with others who are caught in their own cycles of suffering.

For about 14 years, I provided clinical mental health therapy to people of all walks of life, many of whom had been significantly impacted by trauma and were not fully benefiting from traditional therapy approaches. However, when we integrated trauma-informed, somatic (body-based) yoga and meditation techniques, they began to experience significant shifts in their recovery. As they learned how to regulate their nervous systems and cultivate a sense of inner security, they developed confidence in their ability to feel and heal their emotional wounds. No longer coming from a place of brokenness, they began to feel whole again.

These affirming accounts of recovery and healing led to the creation of Your Calm Center and my decision to leave the traditional mental health system in pursuit of providing healing options for those who desire more nourishing, holistic care.

My mission is to continue helping individuals, families and communities to connect with the healing power that is within them, not necessarily to replace other forms of treatment and therapy but to enhance their effectiveness and generate a more collaborative and comprehensive healing experience. Instead of treating a problem, symptom or diagnosis, when working with me, you will be seen as a whole person with a unique compilation of experiences and attributes and unlimited access to the life energy that heals and connects us all.
